Join us to celebrate Sir John Vanbrugh, an extremely important figure in Grimsthorpe’s history with a year – long, nationwide festival presented by the Georgian Group.  Featuring a season – long, brand new exhibition, open weekend, talks and more, this is a special event you won’t want to miss.

The Lettering Arts Trust

The Lettering Arts Trust is dedicated to the fostering of an age old art. For centuries, human beings have felt the need to mark make.

We hope you too will enjoy it through this beautiful collection of exhibits on permanent loan here at Grimsthorpe in the Old Walled Garden.

Inside the Castle

Presented by King Henry VIII as a wedding gift to William 11th Lord Willoughby de Eresby and his Spanish bride, Maria de Salinas, Grimsthorpe Castle is an unexpected marriage of architectural styles. Visit to see our collection, which includes carefully preserved tapestries, furniture, ceramics and paintings. Open Sunday – Thursday, 11am – 4pm (last entry 3:15pm). Guided tours are available.

Into the Gardens

Intricate parterres marked with box hedges lie close to the Castle, and a dramatic herbaceous border frames views across the lake. Visitors are welcome to enjoy our rose garden, topiary garden and kitchen garden, as well as our walled garden featuring the an exhibition from the Lettering Arts Trust.
