Spooktacular Halloween Fun at Grimsthorpe


Visit Grimsthorpe during the last week of October for spooky activities for all the family. Halloween Garden Hunt, Eerie Woodland Walks, Gruesome Castle tours and Pick Your Own Pumpkins are all waiting for those who are brave enough to join in!

 

Pick up a freshly-brewed coffee and a hot snack from The March Hare Tea Trailer and set off across the fallen, golden leaves, or sit and enjoy in our indoor seating area.

 

Open from 10.30am – 5pm from Sunday 22 to Thursday 26, and Sunday 29 October.

 

Historic House Members and Season Ticket holders go free, however Grim Castle Tours must be booked online (pop your unique code into the “promotional code” box).

Sunday 22 October


  • Grim Castle Tours led by Storyteller Mark Fraser at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm (tours of up to 14 people, not suitable for children under 8 years of age). Please note that entry to the Castle is only via a Grim tour ticket.
  • Halloween Garden Hunt (£1 from the Gift Shop)
  • Grim Woodland Walk in the Oaks Woodland (FOC)
  • Pick Your Own Pumpkin (£3 per pumpkin – pay on site)
  • Fancy dress is encouraged!

Monday 23 October


  • Grim & Gruesome Grimsthorpe – Castle open free-flow from 12pm for horrible tales from Grimsthorpe’s history. Optional (normal) tours at 12.30pm and 2pm, can be booked only on arrival at the Ticket Hut.

Spend a chilling evening in the historic Chapel with Dr Barbara Cooke from Loughborough University, perfect for crime novel and particularly Agatha Christie fans!

This talk follows the representation of the country house in crime, mystery and supernatural novels of the 20th Century. Far from simply bearing witness to the murderous and uncanny events that unfold within their walls, in narratives such as The Turn of the Screw, Crooked House, and The Little Stranger, these buildings become characters in their own right: some imprison and some bewilder but all, ultimately, seduce…

Crime and Punishment Tudor Day!

  • Come and hear gruesome and grisly tales of crime and punishment during the Tudor period! His Majesty King Henry VIII will regale his favourite punishment methods, the laws he introduced and the truth behind some of those famous beheadings…
  • Included in your Castle, Park & Gardens ticket
  • Talk/presentation at 12pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm in the Vanbrugh Hall
  • Meet and greet in the grounds in between the presentations with Henry VIII, Katherine of Aragon and Cardinal Wolsey
  • 2pm Costume Competition in the Vanbrugh Courtyard! Come dressed in your finest, scariest, most creative Halloween costume and stand in front of His Majesty King Henry VIII for judgement! All ages welcome to enter. Three prizes to be won.
