A George II giltwood side table with a massive verde antico veneered marble slab.   83.8 x 177.8 x 88.9 cm   The frieze carved with entrelac-and-rosette edged with egg-and-dart ornament centred by a shell framed by later scrolls and standing on hairy lions' paw legs. A set of six George II giltwood wall-lights with six pendant giltwood drops carved with fruit and flowers.   The lyre-shaped backplates are centred by lion-masks, each supporting four serpent branches, now fitted for electricity. These were purchased from the temporary House of Lords in 1847, after fire had ravaged the old Palace of Westminster in 1834.    ...

A Regency gilded mahogany open armchair and footstool supplied by Russell, Valance & Evans in 1820 for Queen Caroline's use as a resting chair at her trial in the House of Lords in 1820.   'A Handsome carved Grecian Chair gilt in burnished Gold for the Use of the Queen at the Throne end of the House (£12.13s.) and a gilt footstool with lions paw feet (£3.3s.)'. Clementina Sarah Drummond, Lady Willoughby de Eresby (1786-1865), by Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (1769-1830). Oil on canvas, 203cm x 143.5cm.   Clementina was the daughter and heiress of James Drummond, 1st Baron Perth. She succeeded to her father's estates, including Drummond Castle in Perthshire, on his death in July 1800. On October 19th, 1807, Clementina married Peter Robert Burrell, afterwards 19th Baron Willoughby de Eresby and 2nd Lord Gwydir, thus uniting the estates at Grimsthorpe, Drummond and Gwydir.
